Recently, I came across a stunning portrait of Michael that many of you were sharing, and it immediately caught my attention. The level of detail, the emotion, and the unique artistic approach made it impossible to ignore. It was so beautifully executed that I decided it deserved an Eyes On feature, shining a spotlight on the talented artist behind the piece: Chloe Alexia.
Based in Scarborough, North Yorkshire, England, Chloe Alexia is a 23-year-old self-taught hyperrealistic pencil artist whose passion for drawing began in childhood. Growing up with an artist father, pencils quickly became her preferred way of expressing herself, and she has spent years refining her remarkable technique. Although she studied art in college, it was during a difficult period in her late teens that her work truly found its voice. Portrait drawing became a form of therapy, allowing her to channel emotion into every piece she created. The portrait depicts Michael Jackson during the 1992 leg of the Dangerous World Tour, wearing the unforgettable holographic silver “Jam” jacket. Fans will instantly recognise the costume from the European shows, where the specially designed holographic fabric reflected the stage lighting in spectacular fashion. It wasn’t metallic armour, but an iridescent textile that constantly shifted colours under the lights, creating one of the most futuristic looks of the tour.
Chloe brilliantly builds her artwork around that visual effect. The artist revealed that this drawing pushed her well beyond her comfort zone. Normally working exclusively in black and white, she painstakingly coloured every individual dot of the jacket using three separate layers, making the garment the most time-consuming part of the piece. In total, the drawing required 82 hours to complete. Chloe describes it as one of her finest works to date, explaining that despite the challenge, creating the colourful jacket was also one of the most enjoyable parts of the process. The finished portrait stands as a heartfelt tribute to the King of Pop, combining technical mastery with genuine admiration for Michael’s artistry.
