The sad story of the Auckland HIStory Tour Fedora

“Billie Jean” was always a spectacle to watch performing live. And The HIStory World Tour performances were just that.

At the end of the song, as always, Michael Jackson through his Fedora to the thousand adulated fans in front of him and there was always a lucky one to catch it.

Danny Gay, a Michael Jackson fan from New Zealand was one of them. He caught the famous and iconic fedora at the HIStory World Tour Auckland in 1996.

Caught on Camera when Danny catches Michael Jackson Fedora:

Unfortunately Danny died at the age of 29 in 2008, leaving behind two children.

His brother, Jamie Olson inherited the King of Pop’s hat from his beloved brother and tried to sale it to support his family, especially his brother’s children.

In 2012, Jamie already tried to sale the iconic item, he contacted an auction house in the US to confirm the authenticity of the item and he tried to auction it online. He was offered $30,000 then $45,000 but it was a prank so Jamie put the hat in storage until now.

Jamie is seeking someone willing to pay what he considers a fair price through non-online networks. He is currently waiting to hear back from a South Island auctioneer who has wealthy US clients who may be interested in the fedora.

Olsen has also contacted the band from The Michael Jackson HIStory Tribute Show, which will be playing in Carterton (New Zealand) in late February, to see if they want to buy it.

“How cool would that be – to actually be wearing Michael Jackson’s hat when he does the show?” he said.

Good luck Jamie, and hoping this historical item brings your family and your brother’s children the stability you all need.
