Following the recent announcement of special editions for Thriller and the upcoming reissue of Invincible, Sony Music US is continuing its Michael Jackson catalogue campaign with the return of several previously released vinyl editions — including some that have been sold out and, in some cases, long forgotten.
On October 16, four Michael Jackson releases will once again be available on vinyl: Thriller 25, Bad 25, the compilation album Scream, and the rather infamous This Is It – 10th Anniversary box set.
The releases are not new editions with previously unreleased material, but rather a return of existing catalogue products that have become increasingly difficult to find.
Thriller 25
Originally released in 2008 to celebrate 25 years of Thriller, Thriller 25 features the original album alongside a selection of remixes and collaborations created for the anniversary project.
The 2LP edition will return on October 16 with a listed price of $34.98.
Bad 25
Michael’s seventh studio album Bad was celebrated in 2012 with the Bad 25 campaign, which included unreleased recordings, live material and other special releases.
The 3LP vinyl edition is also returning, priced at $69.98.
Scream
The 2017 compilation Scream brought together Michael’s songs with a Halloween-inspired theme, featuring tracks such as “Thriller,” “Ghosts,” “Is It Scary” and “Scream,” as well as a bonus mash-up.
The 2LP edition will be available again for $34.98.
This Is It – 10th Anniversary Box Set
And then there is the big one.
The Michael Jackson’s This Is It 10th Anniversary box set was originally released in 2019 to mark ten years since the release of the This Is It concert documentary and soundtrack.
The elaborate set has been unavailable for some time and is certainly one of the more unusual pieces in Michael’s vinyl catalogue.
Sony Music US is now listing the box set for reissue on October 16, with a hefty price tag of $479.99.
For collectors who missed these editions the first time around, October could therefore be an expensive month.
With Thriller 25, Bad 25, Scream and This Is It all returning, alongside the previously announced special-format Invincible and Thriller releases, it looks like Sony Music is giving several pieces of Michael’s catalogue a second spin on vinyl.
