Newly Surfaced 2009 Photos Show Michael Jackson with His Iconic Thriller Awards

More than 17 years after they were taken, a series of previously unseen photographs of Michael Jackson has surfaced, offering fans another rare glimpse into the final months of the King’s life.

Captured by renowned photographer Lester Cohen on February 7, 2009, the images show Michael Jackson posing proudly with his legendary Thriller awards at the prestigious Hotel Bel-Air in Los Angeles, California.

The intimate photo session took place just weeks before Jackson would announce his highly anticipated This Is It residency in London. Relaxed and smiling, Michael is seen surrounded by the accolades earned from Thriller, the groundbreaking album that redefined popular music and remains the best-selling album of all time.

The photographs are particularly significant as very few professional portrait sessions from early 2009 exist. They capture Michael during a period when he was preparing for what he hoped would be his triumphant return to the stage, while also reflecting on the extraordinary legacy he had already built.

Lester Cohen, one of the music industry’s most respected photographers, has photographed countless legendary artists throughout his career. His newly surfaced images of Michael provide a fresh perspective on the artist during one of the most talked-about periods of his life.

For fans, these photographs are more than just new images, they are a reminder of the immense impact of Thriller and the enduring legacy of an artist whose influence continues to resonate around the world. Seeing Michael proudly posing with the awards that symbolize one of the greatest achievements in music history is a touching reminder of the remarkable career he built over four decades.

As previously unseen material continues to emerge from archives and private collections, every new photograph helps preserve another piece of Michael Jackson’s extraordinary story, allowing both longtime fans and newer generations to experience moments that had remained hidden until now.

  8. I was at my most vulnerable when Michael showed up. His music defined my older teenage years and taught me insight during my young adult time. His music made a bad day good and the way he always conducted himself, with such humility, kindness, and love and appreciation made me realize that I had good qualities too. Thank you Michael. I grew up in the San Fernando Valley where he grew up so I had a connection with him early on. At 19, I worked for Bekins Moving and Storage in North Hollywood and he and his family would often come in to get their costumes. All the kids were well behaved and highly respectful. They hovered around Katherine taking care of her and most of all they weren’t “mythical” they were normal fun teens/young adults, but without a trace of pridefullness. Michael referred to me as “Miss”
Until I said “no Michael, just call me Alice. Like Alice in Wonderland ” his little face lit up and he then called me Alice whenever he saw me. He and his entire family just exuded kindness, happiness and love. They were a joy to be with even if it was just a few minutes. Katherine was so proud of them but
not afraid to correct their behavior if she felt they had crossed a line. It was usually just a warning to keep their voices down. I loved their family dynamics. Especially the way Katherine spoke to the kids. I was so fortunate to have met them all. Thank you God ❤️

    • BEAUTIFUL, you made me feel, like I was present, in your story telling. 🙏🏽❤️ RIH MJ

  9. I took my entire family to see Micheal including my oldest oldest who did go anywhere. We sat in the rain to watch the show. We did not see him alive after that night. Mamie

  10. Micheal Jackson’s performance on stage was always beautiful. I saw him perform on stage when I was 12 years old in Cleveland Ohio. I’m 69 now. That is something I will always remember. Rest in peace Michael

  11. I have been a loyal fan of Michael Jackson and the Jackson 5 since was 9 years old when they first started out. I have been a loyal fan every since then. I was very hurt and devastated when he passed away. I have all of The Jackson 5’s ALBUMS, and SINGLES-the 45’s,
all of Michael Jackson’s solo ALBUMS, CASSETTE TAPES, and CD’s. I went to all of their Concerts when they came to ATLANTA. Never missed a concert, always bought souvenirs, especially his signature SUNGLASSES. I never got a chance to meet one on one, but I was always there in their presence. A VERY LOYAL FAN TO THE END. THEN AND NOW, AND FOREVER.
