Weird Al just released his most successful parody in 4K: “Eat It”.
Yeah, he just beat the Estate to it in the game of 4K videos. The parody is based on Michael Jackson “Eat It”, which gave Al Yankovic an international renown.
This is maybe due to his parody biopic about himself which has “Eat It” in the center of the movie.
It also seems that the Michael Jackson Estate had their say in his movie according to a recent interview for UPROXX:
“I was actually pretty nervous about it because I was told that all the music had been cleared before we started shooting. And then after we were done editing, they said, “Okay, now we need to run this by Michael Jackson’s camp and Queen’s camp.” And I’m like, “What?!” They said, “Well, now they need to sign off on it. We don’t have it really cleared.” And I was freaking out for about a week thinking they’re going to totally destroy this movie. They’re going to say, “You can’t do this, you can’t do this.” But, thankfully, they were good with everything. I think the Michael Jackson estate, they made us take out one line in the movie. What was the line? I don’t think I should say. I don’t want you to get in any trouble. It was one of my favorite lines, but it’s gone. But yeah, Queen told us right off the bat, no Freddie Mercury, which we did.”

Meanwhile, the Michael Jackson Estate is very late in the game of transferring all Michael Jackson videos in 4K, we have been promised few videos will be in 4K in the release of Thriller 40, which will have to include “Beat It”. Funny that its parody gets the 4K treatment first!
Michael Jackson was the pioneer in Music video and revolutionised the music industry with his story telling short films, which even catapulted MTV to the top of music channels. But yet, the constant push back from the multi-billion Estate to continue this legacy is very disturbing and disappointing.
