Confused about “Weird: the Al Yankovic story”?

If you have watched “Weird: The Al Yankovic Story”, hoping to see if Michael Jackson was mentioned, you surely got confused.

Yes, Michael Jackson is mentioned numerous times and Yankovic’s most successful parody “Eat It” is at the center of the movie.

But if you thought you were watching a biopic of Al Yankovic’s life, you were wrong and maybe got confused as the movie goes on.

That’s right, in the movie, Weird Al released “Eat It” two years prior Michael Jackson’s “Beat It” while dating an evil Madonna.

Just by reading this you are now clearly knowing this is not true. It is because it is not a biopic! The film, a satire of biopics and loosely based on Yankovic’s life and career, stars Daniel Radcliffe as Yankovic, along with Evan Rachel Wood, Rainn Wilson, Toby Huss, Arturo Castro, and Julianne Nicholson in supporting roles.

The satire is that Michael Jackson’s parody of “Beat It” catapulted Weird Al at the top of his genre and made him known around the world. Followed by “Fat”, an approved Parody by Michael Jackson on “BAD” using the same set of the iconic MJ short film. Weird AL also featured in “Liberian Girl” video.

Weird Al knows it, his fans know it and Michael Jackson fans know it too!

The two men had a great artistic relationship and despite Yankovic removing his MJ numbers from his tours after “Leaving Neverland”, the movie clearly states that Michael Jackson had a huge importance in his career.

So if you are about to watch the movie, keep that in mind. Weird Al’s biopic parody of a man who made his career doing parody.
