The Estate Goes Public About Frank Cascio

The battles over Michael Jackson’s legacy are far from over, and this time, they hit close to home. The Estate of Michael Jackson has launched a blistering legal offensive against Frank Cascio, a man fans long recognized as part of Michael’s inner circle, practically family.

In a dramatic petition filed in Los Angeles Superior Court on July 8th, the Estate accuses Cascio of masterminding a jaw-dropping extortion plot demanding up to $213 million, threatening to flip decades of fierce public support into salacious allegations about Michael. For over 30 years, the Cascios, Frank, his siblings Eddie, Dominic Jr., Aldo, and Marie Nicole, were by Michael’s side, vacationing with him, enjoying lavish gifts, and repeatedly defending his innocence on global TV.

In fact, Cascio was so close he once managed parts of Michael’s career, promoted a memoir titled My Friend Michael, and told Wendy Williams in 2011: “Michael’s love for children was innocent… profoundly misunderstood.” Even under oath, he declared nothing inappropriate ever happened, once famously saying on ABC: “If Michael ever laid a finger on me, I would not be in this chair right now.”

But according to the Estate, everything changed after HBO’s controversial Leaving Neverland aired in 2019. The petition claims Cascio saw an opportunity, if Wade Robson and Jimmy Safechuck were getting attention (and potentially payouts), why shouldn’t he? The Estate alleges Cascio and his legal team began making secret demands, even insisting on poolside meetings at the Sunset Marquis Hotel, in bathing suits, to ensure no one wore a wire.

A Secret Settlement — Then More Demands

In January 2020, the Estate, desperate to protect Michael’s children and lucrative deals like the Vegas “Michael Jackson ONE” show and Broadway’s “MJ,” agreed to a confidential settlement. Reports say they paid the five Cascio siblings around $15-16.5 million total, with strict NDAs and arbitration clauses to keep any disputes private.

But the peace didn’t last. Last year, the Estate says Cascio returned with a shocking ultimatum: pay $213 million more or face a barrage of wild public accusations that flew in the face of decades of his own statements. Emails from Cascio’s then-attorney Howard King warned they’d “expand the circle of knowledge,” even hinting at leaking claims during Sony’s $600 million purchase of Michael’s music catalog.

The Estate responded by starting confidential arbitration, accusing Cascio of civil extortion. Cascio then replaced King with none other than Mark Geragos, ironically Michael’s own lawyer from his 2003 case, who once declared Michael “100% innocent.” Now, Geragos has reportedly reduced the demand to $44 million, but still threatened a splashy public lawsuit for defamation and emotional distress if they don’t pay.

Deep Betrayal — Or Desperate Grab?

The filings paint a picture of profound betrayal. The Estate argues Cascio is cashing in on the same false narratives he once called “lies,” jeopardizing Michael’s children and his hard-earned legacy. Since Michael’s tragic passing in 2009, the Estate has erased $500 million in debt and built an empire earning over $3 billion, spanning blockbuster projects like This Is It, Cirque du Soleil, and the upcoming biopic MICHAEL starring Jaafar Jackson.

Fans are left stunned. Was this always a cynical cash grab or is there something darker beneath? As the Estate seeks to compel private arbitration and recover legal fees, one thing is clear: they’re determined not to let Michael’s name be tarnished by what they call a “shakedown.”

As John Branca put it bluntly:

“We will continue to manage the Estate with the integrity and dedication that Michael deserved. Attempts like this to tarnish his memory for financial gain will not succeed.”

Who is Frank Cascio?
Frank Cascio was a longtime friend and personal assistant to Michael Jackson, known to fans from his frequent appearances alongside the King of Pop. Growing up around Michael from childhood, Cascio later helped manage parts of Michael’s career and penned the 2011 memoir My Friend Michael, where he staunchly defended Michael’s innocence and described him as a loving, misunderstood figure.

Who is Mark Geragos?
Mark Geragos was one of Michael Jackson’s attorneys during the early stages of the 2005 child molestation trial. He was initially the lead attorney but was later replaced by Thomas Mesereau. Geragos also simultaneously handled the Scott Peterson case during this time. He publicly defended Jackson, stating that Jackson’s actions, like allowing children to sleep in his bed, were not inherently wrong.
This isn’t the first time Geragos has been linked to extortion allegations, as he was previously named as an unindicted co-conspirator in the same Nike case.
Mark Geragos has been ordered to pay $100,000 in a civil case where a jury found he aided Michael Avenatti in a 2019 extortion attempt against Nike. While Avenatti was convicted and jailed, Geragos, though never criminally charged, was found to have breached his duty to a client by supporting the scheme.

  1. Is this propaganda information or did the extraordinary friend succumb to Alzheimer’s disease at such a young age? Soon he will probably demand 2 billion.

I bet not even Oprah and Dan Reed will welcome him with open arms. For Robson and Safechuck, he is even a threat to their plan. Such a blackmailing co-conspirator, including a wiretapping scandal, can be dangerous.
