Polo G takes on “Smooth Criminal”

Polo G, real name Taurus Tremani Bartlett, is a 22 years old American Rapper who’s first album came out in 2019 which received generally positive reviews and peaked at number six on the US Billboard 200.

On June 11, Bartlett released Hall of Fame, his 3rd album, which debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200 and became his first number-one album. He will release Hall of Fame 2.0, a deluxe edition of the album, on December 3, 2021 which includes unreleased material including a Michael Jackson sample.

The song in question “Bad Man (Smooth Criminal)” samples Michael Jackson iconic song “Smooth Criminal”.

The Chicago rapper had been trying to get permission for using the sample for a long time, and it was finally cleared earlier this month.

The song is produced by Khaled Rohaim and features some of Michael Jackson’s lyrics. He also used to track during his Rolling Loud set.

Listen to the new song below with his music video just released hours ago:

The music video is a clear homage to the King of Pop, inspired by Smooth Criminal short film with the fedora, gangsters, white suite but also a feel of “You Rock My World” with the fight in the bar.

At the end of the video, Polo G makes a statement:

To the family, friends and fans of Michael Jackson and his Estate,

We are truly grateful for all your support in the release of this song and music video. MJ is loved all around the world. We used this opportunity to represent this song for the future. We thank you sincerely and we hope we have contributed our small part to the everlasting memory and legend of the greatest entertainer of all time.

Thank you.

Polo G
