Nati Cañada’s portrait of Michael Jackson on display

Famous Spanish artist and painter Nati Cañada painted a portrait of Michael Jackson back in the early 90s.

She recalls: “Painting Michael Jackson was not a challenge. He did not impose anything on me, neither the colors nor the postures. He was delighted with my interpretation and wanted me to explain every detail to him. He was very interested in my work and the techniques used.”

When Michael passed away in 2009, she said: “I had the chance to know the man and the artist and I can say loud and clear that I have always believed in him and that this rare man, far from being what people think, was kind enough to give me a hand on a few occasions, sign an autograph and care about my work and my passions. He appeared to me as a fragile and intelligent person, the characteristics of great artists. Many defined him as extravagant but I think it was simply related to his genius,”

This same painting will be on display with a huge collection of Nati’s work at the Monasterio El Olivar in Spain.

The official opening ceremonies will be tomorrow, April 1 at 12:00 pm, and the exhibition will be open to the public that same day at 4pm During that day you can also enjoy a concert by the Coral de Alcorisa at 5:00pm and a keynote lecture by Nati Cañada at 6:00pm.

The exhibition will remain open until December 8 and can be visited from Tuesday to Sunday from 10am to 1:00pm and from 4:00pm to 7:00pm. Guided tours can be booked in advance. Visit Monasterio El Olivar website for more information or Nati Cañada’s website.
