Jaafar Jackson continues to receive recognition for his portrayal of his uncle, Michael Jackson, in the biographical film Michael. The actor has been announced as one of the honorees at the 9th annual Critics Choice Association’s Celebration of Black Cinema & Television.
Announced on October 20, 2026, Jaafar will receive the Actor Award – Film for his performance in the Lionsgate production, which marked his acting debut.
The annual event celebrates outstanding achievements by Black talent both in front of and behind the camera, recognising performers and creatives working across film and television.
The 2026 celebration will take place on Monday, November 16, at the Fairmont Century Plaza in Los Angeles. Emmy-nominated actor and comedian Roy Wood Jr. will host the event, which is scheduled to premiere on the Critics Choice Association’s official YouTube channel in December.
Jaafar joins an impressive list of honorees this year, including Chiwetel Ejiofor, Chris Rock, Debbie Allen and Quinta Brunson.
The recognition follows a remarkable year for Michael, which has become the first biographical film of any kind to surpass $1 billion at the worldwide box office, as well as the most successful release in Lionsgate’s history, according to the Critics Choice Association.
For Jaafar, the award represents another significant milestone following his first major screen role, in which he brought his uncle’s life and musical legacy to the big screen.
The full list of honorees is available on the official Critics Choice Association website.
