‘Michael’ Skips the Super Bowl But a New Teaser Keeps the Anticipation Alive

In the days leading up to Super Bowl 2026, speculation ran high among fans that the long-awaited Michael biopic would finally make its big-game debut. Rumors of a Super Bowl trailer circulated widely online, fueling excitement across the Michael Jackson fan community. As it turned out, the whispers were just that… rumors. No Michael trailer aired during the broadcast.

Instead, fans were met with something quieter but no less intriguing: a new “in 75 days” teaser, released simultaneously across the film’s official social media platforms. Minimal, mysterious, and deliberate, the message served as a reminder that while Michael may have skipped the Super Bowl spotlight, its arrival is drawing closer by the day.

Super Bowl 2026 once again proved to be a major stage for Hollywood. The 2025 game set a historic record with 127.7 million viewers, and with Super Bowl LX bringing the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots to Levi’s Stadium, alongside a halftime performance by Bad Bunny, expectations were sky-high. With advertising slots reportedly costing between $8 and $10 million for just 30 seconds, studios carefully chose where to invest their marketing dollars.

This year, Disney and Universal leaned heavily into the event, debuting new footage from high-profile projects like The Mandalorian and Grogu and Steven Spielberg’s Disclosure Day. Other titles, including Scream 7, Project Hail Mary, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, Minions & Monsters, and Pixar’s Hoppers, all made their presence felt. Notably absent, however, was Lionsgate’s Michael, starring Jaafar Jackson as his legendary uncle.

Given the circumstances, that absence may have been a blessing in disguise. Bad Bunny’s halftime performance quickly became one of the most polarizing moments of the night, dominating social media discourse. Comment sections across platforms turned heated, with sharp divides between viewers who praised the show and those who criticized it. The argumentative tone overshadowed much of the game’s cultural conversation, hardly an ideal environment for unveiling a first major look at such a significant and emotionally charged film.

In that context, holding back the Michael teaser from the Super Bowl frenzy may have been a strategic move. Rather than being lost amid controversy and online clashes, the film’s marketing continues on its own terms, controlled, focused, and intentional.

And now, with a simple but powerful reminder echoing across social media, the message is clear:

In 75 days, the story of Michael Jackson steps closer to the spotlight.

  1. A very wise move by the estate – stay in control of the narrative. Don’t get wrapped into the political hot topics. So glad they did this.
