Jaafar Jackson shared his essentials, including some Michael Jackson memories and essentials in a new interview for GQ Middle East.
The actor was recently revealed as the September cover star for the publication and discussed memories from ‘Michael’ and details about the awaited sequel in a cover story.
Included in Jackson’s essentials was a notebook acquired a few years before the release of ‘Michael:’
“I got this in 2021 or 2022 when I first began pre-production for ‘Michael.’ So this is something I kept with me on set every single day and it’s filled. Every single page is really filled out.”
Jackson also says that the notebook also became a helpful tool for guidance during production:
“It really just kind of guided me throughout the process of filming. Whenever I felt like I needed some type of guidance, I would look in this book, open up a random page and there was something that would really help me.”
Jackson also revealed a VHS tape of the film, “Moonwalker,” as another essential item:
“This was probably the first, I think, obsessive tape I found that I would replay over and over again. When we used to have VHS tapes, I’d put this on every day, if not every other day, hyper-focused on ‘Smooth Criminal,’ which is my ultimate favorite video of Michael’s.”
Jackson also gave a nod to his uncle’s fondness for filmmaking, expressing admiration for his creativity of the classic film:
“Just the whole short film of this was just really incredible to see what he did beyond just ‘Smooth Criminal,’ having Joe Pesci in there and just all the different elements in the world he created.”
Jackson also revealed a key to the city of Gary, Indiana, a sentimental location for the Jackson family:
“I got this when I went to Gary, Indiana. I was given the key to the city. The reason this means so much to me is because that’s where it all started for my family. I had the privilege of going back there to screen the film ‘Michael,’ for the residents.”
Jackson further emphasized the special value of being awarded this honor alongside residents and family members:
“It was such an emotional experience for me to go back where it all started but to also be awarded this, to be able to receive it in Gary, Indiana, in front of all of the residents but also to have my father there, my uncles and some other family members. So, this one is a really special one.”
