Visitors entering the National Museum of African American Music in Nashville are now being greeted by an iconic image of Michael Jackson as part of the museum’s flagship exhibition, One Nation Under a Groove.
The exhibition, named after George Clinton’s legendary song, celebrates the history and evolution of R&B music and its many genres. As the museum’s largest gallery, it explores the profound influence of African American music on culture and society, tracing its development from the post-World War II era through to today.
Among the many artists highlighted throughout the exhibit, Michael Jackson holds a significant place in the story of modern music. The gallery specifically recognizes the groundbreaking success of Thriller and Michael’s role in breaking MTV’s unofficial color barrier during the 1980s, moments that helped redefine popular music and open doors for future generations of Black artists.

The exhibit also features interactive experiences, including a music production station where visitors can create their own R&B-inspired recordings and a motion-activated dance floor that celebrates decades of R&B dance styles.

I’m confused 😕 because, I grew up with the jackson 5 all through the 70s and part of the 80s. However, I love all of mjs accomplishments as well as respect for him being an amazing artist. However, I know many are going to disagree with me..when I say, ” Michael Jackson is Not the spokesperson for All Black people. Neither are his white children or other family members. Just like he adopted those 3 white kids I’m quite sure there were 3 black kids waiting for a home too. So, call me what you will, I’m still saying th same thing. The Jackson’s are NOT AT ALL SPOKESPERSONS FOR BLACK AMERICA.

Michael Jackson may not be “the spokesperson” for black people” but he’s accomplished more in music. Not only that, Michael Jackson is recognized by Guinness World Records for supporting
charities, the most by any pop star, and is estimated to have donated
around $500 million to humanitarian causes during his lifetime.
Not sure what point you are making here. He’s a black artist who has experienced the same issues many black artists have experienced. Since he was more successful than most, why can’t he speak to it?
