There was plenty of clucking, flapping and dancing going on at this year’s Sausage Fest in Richland, Washington, but when it came to the chicken dance competition, it was Michael Jackson who stole the show!
As part of the 50th annual Sausage Fest at Christ the King Catholic School, students took to the stage for the annual chicken dance competition, with this year’s entries including cheerleading chickens, jousting chickens and even chess boxing chickens.
But the winning routine had a little extra hee-hee! in it.
Nora and London took first place dressed as “Michael Jackson Chickens”, combining the traditional chicken dance with some of Michael’s most recognisable dance moves.
And yes, there was more than one Michael Jackson competing!
The pair brought their own interpretation of the King of Pop to the stage, mixing chicken-style flaps and claps with iconic Michael-inspired moves. The result was enough to win over the judges and take home first place.
“We both figured out what to do in the dance and she picked the costume,” Nora explained.
It seems the Michael Jackson influence did not stop there either.
Following the chicken dance competition, the school’s eighth graders took to the stage to perform to “Thriller”, before finishing with their own chicken dance.
So, for one day at least, Richland had Michael Jackson, Thriller and the chicken dance all sharing the same stage. That is certainly a combination we never expected to see!
The Sausage Fest continues through September 19, with food, games, performances and, naturally, plenty of sausages.
And somewhere in Richland, two very special Michael Jackson Chickens can officially call themselves champions.
