After 14 weeks of tracking the worldwide box office performance of Michael, we have reached what appears to be the film’s final worldwide total.
Although Michael is still playing in a handful of cinemas, most notably in Japan, the worldwide grosses have remained unchanged while every other major release has continued to update. With streaming now underway in several territories and DVD and Blu-ray releases arriving (or scheduled) around the world, it is safe to consider these figures as the film’s final theatrical box office result.
It has been an incredible journey to follow every milestone, record and achievement with you over the past fourteen weeks.

With its final total confirmed, Michael finishes 61st on the All-Time Worldwide Box Office chart.
It sits just behind The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey ($1.017 billion) and ahead of both The Super Mario Galaxy Movie and Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight.
Considering the thousands of films released throughout cinema history, finishing among the Top 61 highest-grossing films ever released worldwide is an extraordinary achievement.

At no point did we say *Michael* had finished its theatrical run or would never earn another dollar. We explicitly stated that the film is still playing in some countries and that the final lifetime total will be higher.
Our decision was simply to conclude a weekly series after 14 weeks of tracking. Every article takes hours to compile and verify, and as volunteers we have to decide when it’s time to move on to other news. That isn’t being “flippant”—it’s an editorial decision.
We used the latest officially reported worldwide figures available at the time. If other sources later report higher totals, that’s great news for the film. It doesn’t change the fact that *Michael* is a billion-dollar success, the highest-grossing music biopic of all time, and one of the biggest films ever released.
We’re incredibly proud of what the movie has achieved. We simply won’t be continuing weekly box office updates indefinitely.
