“Dead Star” A virtual Exhibition including Michael Jackson

“Dead Star” is a unique and futuristic exhibition taking place in Copenhagen, Denmark until October 28, 2021.

The Exhibition description says:

“A dead amalgamation of a human celestially lit suspended on the background of an ever expanding dark virtual space, obviously confronts the observer with the question of existence. The pose from an autopsy table presented as a figure looking peacefully into the heavens seduces the viewer into an initial acceptance. Moving in closer, the very recognizable characteristics of the famous surface and now focus the viewer uncomfortably close to the very public personas that were never allowed to be private. The still nakedness of the body exposes the entitled viewer to ghoulishly inspect and invade the privacy of “their” entertainer. Thus, to objectify, scrutinize and judge further of what truth is or is not. Moving in closer, the acute viewer may recognize various tattoos of the “27 Club” and other transcendentalist thinkers and artists who fell victim to the romanticizing and false fantasy of alcohol and drug addiction masked in freedom, originality, fame and the arts. The glamorization and societal brainwashing that lead to real life and death consequences are not myth in the making of these people and art, it simply is tragedy. The hope in this art is that we all have the ability to help and love another that may be in need of that help or love, no matter who that person is or is not.”

So what will you see at this exhibition? The poster of the exhibition is actually a dying star in the emptiness of space but what you will actually see is a lifeless floating human in front of your eyes and it is designed to appear as Michael Jackson!

The naked image floats vertically between life and death against a starry sky backdrop.

Eric Prince, the owner and designer of the exhibition said “It’s a play on words and has a lot of poetry in it. Essentially, it’s about love and the lack thereof, drug abuse and addiction. There’s all kinds of death in art.”

Asked why Michael Jackson and why naked, he explained “This is someone who has been overexposed by media coverage, People feel like they own this person. I’m making the viewer into a ghoul.”

“MJ is a central figure in the art, but acts as the base for all the other artists represented mainly through tattoos on MJ. The art piece will evolve through the month as people who experience it will suggest a popular figure /artist who lost their life to addiction or tragedy.”

The aim is not to shock the public but to encourage them think more about the humanity of these idols, drawing attention to some of the human struggles they have experienced. “I strongly have stated if people really loved these famous faces (like MJ) they would have helped (get clean/counselling) and not lead these people back to the stage /screen etc.”

Other personalities are also represented in this exhibition: Elvis Presley, Jonghun of the K pop group BTS, Jack Kerouac, Janis Joplin, Dash Snow, Jean-Michel Basquait, Jim Morrison, Robert Johnson and Kurt Cobain.

Other artists will be soon added such as Amy Winehouse, GG Alin, Jimi Hendrix, Prince, Marilyn Monroe, Peaches Geldof, Judy garland, Lenny Bruce, Whitney Houston, Darby Crash, Sid Vicious, Nick Drake, Ira Hayes, Heath ledger, Jackson Pollock, Johnny Thunders, Nico…

This is one of the first Virtual Reality 3D art pieces about Michael Jackson and while the technology is growing, this exhibition is still a small and independent project, this can be the start of a new art for future decades to come, using 3D VR as a platform to discover and create art. It will go on sale as one of the first tradable XR NFT experiences in the world after the exhibition in the gallery ends Oct. 28 on artxr.io

Nevertheless, this exhibition might not be what some fans would expect, but it is important to remember the aim of the artist is not to offend but to bring awareness to human struggles.

No pictures of the artwork are available yet as Eric would like the visitors to fully experience the VR exhibition.
