With renewed interest in Captain EO following the massive success of the Michael biopic, Disney is bringing back one of the attraction’s most memorable characters.
At this year’s D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, Disney will debut an interactive Fuzzball plush, based on Michael Jackson’s lovable winged sidekick from the iconic 1986 3D attraction Captain EO. The plush features “authentic sounds” from the film before later becoming available through the Disney Store.
Originally created for Captain EO, Fuzzball accompanied Michael Jackson’s Captain EO character on his mission to bring music and light to the universe. The attraction famously united Jackson with director Francis Ford Coppola and executive producer George Lucas, making it one of Disney’s most unique productions.
Disney’s decision to revive the character comes as Michael Jackson enjoys renewed worldwide attention following the phenomenal success of the Michael biopic, which recently surpassed $1 billion at the global box office. The film has sparked fresh interest in Jackson’s music, memorabilia and legacy, with Captain EO once again finding its place in the spotlight.
The new Fuzzball joins other nostalgia-inspired collectibles launching at D23, including merchandise celebrating classic Disney Parks attractions. While Captain EO has remained a beloved part of Disney history for many fans, the attraction itself has had an unusual journey, returning to Disney Parks as a tribute following Michael Jackson’s passing in 2009 before closing once again several years later.
Adding another fascinating chapter to the character’s history, Fuzzball also made a surprise return in 2024 when the creature was incorporated into the Star Wars universe through the Disney+ series Star Wars: Skeleton Crew.
For longtime Captain EO fans and Disney collectors alike, the return of Fuzzball is a nostalgic reminder of one of the most ambitious collaborations in entertainment history—and one that continues to capture the imagination of fans nearly 40 years later.
