As anticipation reaches fever pitch ahead of the Japanese release of Michael, promotional displays are appearing across the country, transforming cinemas and some of Tokyo’s busiest transportation hubs into celebrations of Michael Jackson’s legacy.
From elaborate theater decorations to massive station takeovers, it is clear that Japan is ready to welcome the highly anticipated biopic.
One of the most impressive displays can be found at MOVIX Hiyoshizaki, where visitors are greeted by special lobby decorations dedicated to the film. Fans are encouraged to take a closer look, as the showcase includes several miniature Michael figures hidden throughout the display, creating a fun experience for moviegoers before they even enter the theater.
Meanwhile, commuters passing through Shibuya Station are being met with striking visuals from the film. The ticket gate area of the Keio Inokashira Line has been completely dressed with Michael promotional artwork, turning one of Tokyo’s busiest transit points into a tribute to the King of Pop. The installation runs from June 8 to June 14 and can be viewed inside the station’s ticket gate area.
Not to be outdone, JR Shinjuku Station is hosting one of the largest promotional campaigns for the film. The famous “Shinjuku Wall 456,” Japan’s largest ultra-long digital signage space, is showcasing Michael with a spectacular display featuring Michael Jackson’s iconic moonwalk. Located in the East-West Free Passage, the installation is impossible to miss and will remain on display through June 14.
These large-scale promotions highlight the excitement surrounding Michael in Japan, a country that has long maintained a special connection with Michael Jackson and his music. With theaters, train stations, and public spaces embracing the film, the countdown to release has truly begun.
