While we haven’t posted about this extortion-attempt trial since July last year, new developments occurred during a court hearing a few days ago. We also tried to keep things positive on MJVibe, but you, the fans, need to know what’s going on and get ready for a very long timeline.
The lawsuit brought by Wade Robson and James Safechuck against the Michael Jackson Estate continues its seemingly endless march through the legal system. At this point, some fans weren’t even married, had children, or started their careers when this case began.
According to the latest case status report filed by both parties, the mutually proposed trial date has now been pushed back yet again, this time to February 14, 2028.
Yes, 2028.
By then, more than 5,400 days will have passed since Wade Robson first filed his claims.
The latest delay comes despite both sides reporting that document discovery is “largely complete” and that extensive written discovery has already been exchanged. Discovery-related disputes have apparently been resolved through the Discovery Referee, which sounds like progress, but don’t celebrate just yet.
James Safechuck is scheduled to be deposed on June 18, while another witness considered critical to the case may not be available until September 2026 due to health issues. The Discovery Referee is also expected to participate in certain depositions but has limited availability. Meanwhile, attorney Vince Finaldi’s law partner, John Carpenter, reportedly has scheduling conflicts through June because of other trial commitments.
In April, both sides met and agreed to extend the timeline by another four months. The revised schedule now pushes the written discovery deadline all the way to May 28, 2027, setting the stage for the proposed February 2028 trial.
For anyone keeping score at home, that’s nearly two more years of waiting before this case ever reaches a courtroom.
Of course, Wade and James were recently spotted together looking cheerful enough for selfies while waiting for their day in court. After more than a decade of litigation, delays, documentaries, interviews, podcasts, and endless media coverage, one might wonder if they’re hoping for a jackpot that arrives faster than a verdict.
Meanwhile, Michael Jackson remains unable to defend himself, the Estate continues to deny the allegations, and fans continue watching a case that somehow keeps finding new ways to move slower than a snail climbing uphill in wet cement.
So mark your calendars for Valentine’s Day 2028, at least for now. If the history of this case has taught us anything, it’s that proposed dates are about as reliable as a moonwalk on a trampoline.
Stay tuned. Apparently, we’ve got another 600-plus days to go.
