In a jaw-dropping tribute to the King of Pop, talented cake artist Emma Jayne Morris, 55, from Aberdare, South Wales, has crafted a life-like sculpture of Michael Jackson from his iconic Thriller era, entirely out of cake.
Timed perfectly for Halloween, the edible masterpiece will be unveiled at Cake International, held at Birmingham’s NEC from Friday, October 31. Standing nearly six feet tall, the striking figure captures MJ’s unmistakable 1980s look, from the curls and makeup to that signature Thriller stare.
To create the sculpture, Emma sculpted the head from Rice Krispies and marshmallows, then formed Jackson’s face with modelling chocolate and 40 kg of sugar paste. The body features a steel frame for support, while the eyes, made from hand-painted sugar paste, give the model an uncanny realism.
Emma, a lifelong MJ fan and mom of three, said her inspiration came straight from the King of Pop himself:
“I chose Michael Jackson because I’ve always been a huge fan. He was a musical genius, and it made sense to do the King of Pop — especially with the show opening on Halloween. It’s my way of paying tribute to his legacy.”
Working up to 15 hours a day for three weeks, Emma described the process as both intense and addictive:
“Once you start, it becomes an obsession. The planning takes a long time — everything has to be perfect.”
The result is a breathtaking edible monument that fuses art, music, and pop culture, a fitting celebration of the man who turned Thriller into the ultimate Halloween anthem.
