Lionsgate and Universal have officially rescheduled the global theatrical release of Michael, the highly anticipated Michael Jackson biopic, to Friday, April 24, 2026. The film will also receive an IMAX release, giving fans around the world an even more immersive experience of Michael’s extraordinary journey.
Sources reveal that the release shift was partly due to the film’s length, the first cut reportedly ran over three and a half hours. Additionally, adjustments were made during post-production to align with prior agreements concerning sensitive subject matter. While the original screenplay by Oscar-nominated writer John Logan included references to Jordan Chandler, production later revised the film to remove that storyline, honoring a long-standing agreement not to portray Chandler.
Despite the behind-the-scenes reshuffling, excitement around Michael continues to grow, and with no major studio releases currently slated for April 24, the new date positions the film for a strong box office debut.
This marks the third release date change for the film, it was originally scheduled for April 18, 2025, then moved to October 3, before settling on its current April slot. But don’t hold your breath, who knows, this might be rescheduled again.
Meanwhile, we have also learned that a second Michael Jackson film project remains in development, although details are still under wraps.
