14 year old Max Chambers from MJ The Musical on “The Voice”

Max Chambers, best known to Michael Jackson fans for his role in MJ The Musical, has taken his next big step — onto NBC’s The Voice.

Chambers lit up Broadway as Little Michael (replacement) from September 2023 through June 2024, while also appearing as Little Marlon in both understudy and select performance roles. His time portraying young Michael Jackson on stage gave him a strong foundation in performance and discipline, skills now shining on the national TV stage.

This week, the 14-year-old from Shreveport, Louisiana wowed the Voice audience and coaches with an energetic performance of the Jackson 5 classic “I Want You Back.” Dressed sharply in a light blue suit, bow tie, and glasses, Chambers not only impressed the crowd but also sparked a bidding war between coaches Michael Bublé and Reba McEntire.

“The joy you just brought the whole room is immense,” Bublé said, praising Chambers’ tone, pitch, and natural musicality. “Fourteen — it’s gonna be crazy for people to watch how much you grow. Your runs are great. Your pitch is great. Sometimes it’s about controlling stuff, and that’s OK. That’s what my job is as a coach. You’re awesome, and I’d love to hang with you, man.”

McEntire, meanwhile, highlighted her versatility as a recording artist, pointing out her work with songs from R&B legends like Aretha Franklin and Diana Ross. She argued that her experience made her the right mentor for Chambers.

While coach Niall Horan admitted he regretted not turning his chair, he praised Chambers’ maturity and Broadway-honed voice. “I’ve got no idea why I didn’t turn,” Horan confessed. “Your voice is so mature. That Broadway experience gives you that working voice, a voice that’s been touring. Welcome to the show.”

Snoop Dogg, who also refrained from turning, gave credit directly to Chambers’ parents for raising a talented young artist.

In the end, Chambers chose Michael Bublé as his coach, a decision Bublé embraced with enthusiasm: “He has discipline and is able to do what it takes,” he said of the young performer’s Broadway roots.

For Michael Jackson fans, it’s thrilling to see one of MJ The Musical’s Little Michaels stepping into the national spotlight. With his undeniable talent, charisma, and experience channeling the King of Pop, Max Chambers’ journey on The Voice will be one to watch closely.
