The Estate goes after Gotta Have It Rock And Roll again

Last month, Gotta Have It Rock And Roll auction house listed a Promotional Thriller Jacket owned by Frank Dileo.

While the listing clearly stated this jacket was a promotional item worn by Michael Jackson, the media took it as the Thriller Jacket worn during the video.

So the Estate criticized the auction house for misleading their listing. Jonathan Steinsapir, the attorney for Jackson’s estate, demanded the auction house alter its description to reflect the truth, and GHRR obliged. It now reads: “The jacket is similar to the jacket worn in the Thriller video.”

GHRR has obliged and changed the description of the item.

This is not the first time the estate went after GHRR. In December 2023, estate lawyers took legal action to pull unreleased demo recordings from an auction. Litigator Alex Spiro threatened to get a restraining order against the auction house unless they released the “unquestionably stolen” recordings. The threat proved successful. The recordings have never seen the light day, and have been removed from the official GHRR website.

You can still bid for this item here.
