Sony Music signs deal with Tik Tok

As announced last September by the Michael Jackson Estate, Michael will have a new platform on Tik Tok.

While some doubts appeared as the Chinese based company Tik Tok was battling the US administration’s effort to ban the app, a US federal judge last week issued an injuction temporarily blocking an executive order by President Donal Trump aimed at banning the app or to engineer a sale to American Investors.

Well, it seems Tik Tok has found an American Investor! On Monday, the App announced a deal to give users access to Sony Music Entertainment’s songs catalogue.

The companies did not disclose financial terms of the agreement which will let clips of music owned by Sony be used in the app’s posts.

“We are thrilled to enter in to this agreement with Sony Music so that we can continue to work together to connect the incredible roster of Sony artists in the US and across the globe to new audiences and harness the power of TikTok, Especially during this time when the artist community is challenged to find new ways to reach fans with their music, we are committed to working together to do just that.” said TikTok global head of music Ole Obermann.

TikTok and Sony will also work together to promote artists and help them engage audiences on the platform, as the pandemic has put a halt on live concerts.

As Michael Jackson is part of the Sony artists catalogue, The Estate of Michael Jackson will now receive a cheque from Tik Tok when his songs will be used and it seems Michael’s own Tik Tok account will be live soon!
