Motown 60 failed to mention Michael Jackson and The Jackson 5

Last night (21/04/2019), Motown celebrated its 60th Birthday on CBS for a 2 hours special with the iconic stars that made Motown known around the world such as Diana Ross, Stevie Wonder and Smokey Robinson…

The special had some current artists perform some of the most well-known songs from the Motown catalogue such as Ne-Yo and J-Lo in front of the founder of Motown, Berry Gordy.

Weirdly, the biggest Entertainer in the world who came from Motown was not mentioned at all during the 60th celebration!

Michael Jackson and the Jackson 5 were not mentioned or even covered during the 2 hours special. The Jackson family were not even invited to the party!

Ne-Yo sang “I’ll Be There” within a medley and J-Lo re-hashed her medley which was performed at the Grammys which includes “ABC”.

It is not known why the Jackson 5 did not get a more spotlight in the celebration or even why the remaining members of the Jackson 5 were not invited, although the time in which the show was pre-recorded suggests that it too may have been influenced by the knee-jerk response so many exhibited after that movie.

Many have cited that either Motown’s owners, Universal or the TV network CBS were to blame for the decision to exclude pretty much anything Jackson – It is worth remembering this decision when Motown push out yet another re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re package of the Jackson 5 or hits of Michael’s Motown solo works.
