After thrilling more than 5 million audience members worldwide, MJ The Musical has confirmed it will open at Perth’s Crown Theatre in June 2026.
The Olivier and four-time Tony Award-winning production, which first premiered on Broadway in February 2022, has since become a global sensation with acclaimed runs in London, Germany, and across the United States. Perth audiences will now experience the hit musical as the final stop on its Australian tour.
Brought to Australia by producer Michael Cassel, alongside original Broadway producers Lia Vollack, John Branca, and John McClain, the Australian production premiered in Sydney in March 2024 to roaring acclaim, before opening in Melbourne earlier this month where audiences gave multiple standing ovations.
“MJ is the kind of show that feels like stepping into the front row of a once-in-a-lifetime theatrical event,” said Australian producer Michael Cassel. “We’re thrilled to bring it to the Crown Theatre and for Western Australia to share the event that’s been electrifying audiences worldwide.”
Leading the cast is powerhouse performer Ilario Grant, who has already wowed audiences in Sydney and Melbourne with his portrayal of Michael Jackson. “Being part of MJ has been such a joy,” said Grant. “I’m especially excited to bring the show to Perth.”
Since its debut, the musical has received international acclaim, winning four Tony Awards, including Best Choreography for Christopher Wheeldon OBE and earning multiple Olivier Award nominations.
