Thrillerween is taking over the world this Halloween, with Michael Jackson’s legendary “Thriller” continuing to inspire celebrations, zombie dances and spooky events across the globe. In Lexington, Kentucky, hundreds of dancers took to the streets on Sunday, October 25, for the city’s annual Halloween Festival and Thriller Parade.
Downtown Main Street was transformed into a gathering of zombies, Halloween characters and Michael Jackson look-alikes as spectators lined the streets to watch the famous choreography performed to the King of Pop’s iconic 1982 hit.
The evening began with a Halloween parade between Quality and Mill streets, showcasing costumed characters, performances and creative entries from the local community. The celebrations then continued with the much-anticipated Thriller reenactment, featuring several hundred zombies dancing their way through downtown Lexington.
The event was expected to attract around 20,000 people, with nearly 100 police officers assigned to traffic control and security. Alongside the parade, the free festival featured live performances, food and drink stalls, craft vendors and activities for the whole family.
The tradition has been running since the early 2000s, when local dance enthusiasts first came together to recreate Michael Jackson’s groundbreaking music video as a street performance. It has since grown into one of Lexington’s best-known Halloween celebrations, earning national recognition as a major destination for the spooky season.
More than four decades after “Thriller” was released, its unmistakable choreography continues to bring people together, with fans of all ages embracing the music, the costumes and the fun. From organised zombie performances to Halloween parties and fan celebrations, Michael Jackson’s influence remains firmly at the heart of the season.
Lexington is another reminder that the spirit of “Thriller” is very much alive this Halloween!
