Some unfunded rumours have been surrounding Kingvention regarding the possibility of the press attending the event. The Kingvention Team has just put out a statement regarding those rumours and we hope that those who were angered by those unfunded stories will be put at ease!
Since January, we kept saying “Facts don’t lie, People do!” to the world – Well, this is also the case here! So no need to make threats or boycott the event on the basis of rumours!
Kingvention is the only Michael Jackson Convention around and it is all about one person and one person only: MICHAEL! Nothing else! Nothing more!
So please read the full statement below:
It has come to our attention that there appears to be some discussions taking place about the prospects of media turning up to Kingvention.
To be clear, we have not invited, nor sought out media or press to attend Kingvention. As many of you will have seen, we are looking for one of you, a fan, to be the backstage correspondent for the event. That is all the press we need.
A television production company did reach out to the Kingvention team and requested to attend and meet with fans. The team took a phone call to understand what the intentions were. That was it. Off the back of this call, they have suggested to other fans that they may be attending as they were waiting to hear from us.
We have, as was our plan, communicated to this company that we will not be extending access to Kingvention, as we have done with all other media requests we’ve received over the last few months.
You deserve an exceptional event, this year more than ever…and that’s exactly what we plan to give you. We would never put the fans, our special guests, ourselves or Kingvention in a position where anybody is made to feel uncomfortable.
Kingvention isn’t a gold-fish bowl to be used as others please. We are very protective of the event, its brand and its attendees and we would never jeopardise all the hard work that goes into creating it, the time and energy from our guests and volunteers, or your invaluable support each year.
Kingvention is a celebration of Michael Jackson. It always has been and it always will be. Kingvention is not the place to re-hash the tired false allegations that have dominated the media, nor is it a place to go to battle. It’s a place where fans can come together, have a great time, hear stories, meet those who worked with Michael and enjoy his music with like-minded people.
We will communicate any important announcements to you directly as we have done this far. As we all say, facts are important. So if you haven’t heard it from us, or spoken to us, please don’t assume something to be the case. We are always happy to answer questions you may have about the event or who is attending, but rest assured, we have not provided media accreditation to anybody or invited any members of the media to attend. We have extended invitations to those celebrities in the public eye who have spoken out in support of Michael over the last few months, but this does not and will not include the press or media.
