Irish Book Store where Michael Jackson shopped to close down

We all remember that Michael Jackson stayed in Ireland in 2007 for a little while and since, many stories from local businesses, restaurants, hotels, and of course locals have came out. All of them very nice stories portraying Michael Jackson as a kind and genuine person as well as an amazing father.

Kinsale Book Store, near where Michael Jackson was staying back then, is about to close down for good as the owners are taking their retirement after 23 years of services for the the local community.

Liam and Heather Barrett, now in their 70’s, are closing the door of their much loved book shop.

But they shared some stories before doing so! During that time, their customers have included Michael Jackson and former US President Bill Clinton.

In 2007, Michael Jackson and his children visited the shop while staying outside the town.

“One day we got a request from his representative that his family would like to buy some books.

“He needed exclusivity so we closed the bookshop early on the afternoon and put black bags on the windows to block out people from looking in.

“Michael Jackson spent the best part of an hour with his children browsing the bookshop and they bought a considerable amount of children’s books. Our staff said he was a really lovely person and it was a great experience,” said Mr Barrett.

Obviously there are no pictures of that day.

It is a shame that the family book store is closing but we wish the Barrett an amazing retirement!
