Elijah Rhea Johnson talks playing Michael Jackson

Elijah Johnson replaced Myles Frost last March at MJ The Musical and in the good tradition of Musical, he has recently sat down with a Broadway News for an interview.

In this interview, Elijah revealed that he was a Michael Jackson fan from early age: “I was a part of the workshop, but I’m also an MJ fan. Michael was the reason I started performing when I was 8, living in Detroit. I love music, I love dance, and I love the feeling Michael gave me.”

Before leaving Myles told Elijah to have fun but the biggest thing he is doing is showing people a side of Michael that people didn’t see a lot said the newly MJ.

Asked about the hardest Michael Jackson move he has to do, Elijah told the journalist that the hardest move is on the “Bad” section: “I was a part of the workshop, but I’m also an MJ fan. Michael was the reason I started performing when I was 8, living in Detroit. I love music, I love dance, and I love the feeling Michael gave me.”

He was also asked his favourite MJ song which he answered “Human Nature”, one of the hardest song to sing for him.

And finally he was asked if he feel a responsibility to play the icon: “I do. Playing Michael is a lot. He’s the greatest entertainer who ever lived. To do that, to carry that legacy and to play that man, comes with a lot of things around it. I definitely feel the pressure and understand what I’m carrying. Michael is the reason why I’m performing today.”

It seems the young actor has a more fan-like approach when it comes to public communication. Maybe one day we will see one of the MJ The Musical cast stating Michael is innocent instead of fluffing around or like Lynn Nottage, thinking the opposite.
