I have been noticing on Social Media and especially with our Japanese friends, some posts about a Japanese Manga character called “Muzan” and how fans see some relation and inspiration in the drawing of the character and the king of Pop Michael Jackson.
So the Japanese animated character is from the series “Demon Slayer” and is an extremely intriguing character, an ambitious and unscrupulous man capable of anything to succeed in his own plans. He is the big bad guy (first demon) and in the manga and cosplay world, he is one of the most popular character.
Also is full name is “Muzan Kibutsuji” and contains the kanji for “demon dance” (鬼き舞ぶ辻つじ kibutsuji?) and “miserable, pitiful, merciless”(無む惨ざん muzan?).
So in terms of story line, nothing to do with Michael (except he is immortal: Michael’s music and artistry is eternal, let’s face it; and his weakness is the sun) but the design is strongly resembles the King of Pop.
He is usually shown wearing a white fedora with a red ribbon and a somewhat extravagant outfit. Sound familiar!
Anyway, this is where it ends. We tried to contact the creators of the character Muzan to confirm where the inspiration of the design comes from but no answer so far! Plus I guess they want to keep the mystery as the anime series is getting a lot of attention from the similarity! Fans of the anime and fans of Michael Jackson are all discussing on forums about it! Marketing plan?
I guess it is flattering to think Muzan was inspired by Michael Jackson! Michael Jackson is the most famous person on Earth so why not! Plus Michael loved cartoons and Mangas (he even put one in his Short Film “Scream”) so I am sure he would loved the resemblance!
Would it be cool if the Estate of Michael Jackson release a new song with a music video all in Anime? Food for thoughts!
