Civil Rights Icon, Rev. Jesse Jackson has passed away

The world reflects on the life and legacy of Jesse Jackson, minister, activist, and founder of the Rainbow/PUSH Coalition, who passed away today. A key figure of the modern civil rights movement and close associate of Martin Luther King Jr., Jackson spent decades advocating for political empowerment, economic justice, and racial equality.

Beyond politics, Jackson shared a meaningful and visible bond with Michael Jackson.

During Michael’s legal battles, Jesse Jackson publicly voiced his support, often speaking about the singer’s resilience and faith. In March 2005, amid the trial proceedings, Michael gave a radio interview to Jackson, declaring his innocence and expressing his reliance on faith during the ordeal.

Their relationship extended well beyond public statements. They maintained a close friendship, with Jesse visiting Neverland and attending personal celebrations, including Michael’s 66th birthday gathering in 2007. Jackson consistently described Michael as a musical genius, a “survivor,” and a “global icon,” comparing his cultural impact to legends like Elvis Presley and The Beatles.

Following Michael’s passing in 2009, Jesse Jackson acted as a liaison for the family, addressing the media and advocating for an independent autopsy. During that difficult time, he became one of the most prominent public voices defending Michael’s legacy.

Though they worked in different arenas, one in civil rights activism, the other in global entertainment, both men broke barriers in their respective fields. Their connection reflected a shared commitment to dignity, perseverance, and lasting cultural impact.

Rest in Peace Rev Jesse Jackson
