Michael Jackson biopic MICHAEL has received three nominations at the 2026 Hollywood Music in Media Awards (HMMA), recognising the film’s musical performances, direction and music supervision.
The nominations were announced on November 2, ahead of the 17th annual HMMA ceremony scheduled for November 18 at the historic Avalon Hollywood.
Jaafar Jackson Nominated for “Bad”
One of the most exciting nominations comes in the Song – Onscreen Performance (Film) category, where Jaafar Jackson is recognised for his performance of Michael Jackson’s iconic hit “Bad” in MICHAEL.
The nomination celebrates Jaafar’s musical performance as he steps into the role of his legendary uncle, bringing Michael’s music and stage presence to the big screen.
Antoine Fuqua Recognised for MICHAEL
The film also received a nomination in the Music-Themed Film, Biopic or Musical category, recognising director Antoine Fuqua for his work on MICHAEL.
The nomination places the Michael Jackson biopic alongside several other music-focused productions competing in this category.
John Warhurst Nominated for Music Supervision
Completing the film’s three nominations is John Warhurst, who has been recognised in the Music Supervision – Film category for his work on MICHAEL.
Music supervision plays an important role in bringing a musical biopic to life, particularly when telling the story of one of the most influential recording artists in history.
The 2026 Hollywood Music in Media Awards
The Hollywood Music in Media Awards celebrate composers, songwriters, music supervisors and artists whose work contributes to film, television, video games and other visual media.
The 17th annual ceremony will take place on November 18, 2026, in Hollywood, California.
With three nominations, MICHAEL is already receiving recognition for the musical elements that are central to telling Michael Jackson’s extraordinary story.
