Nelly celebrated his 52nd birthday in style over the weekend, paying tribute to Michael Jackson with an iconic look from the King of Pop’s legendary ‘Rock With You’ music video.
The rapper hosted a costume party titled Studio 50-mo, a playful nod to Studio 54, the infamous New York nightclub that became synonymous with celebrity culture and the disco era of the 1970s.
For the occasion, Nelly transformed into Michael Jackson, recreating one of the singer’s unforgettable outfits from his 1979 ‘Rock With You’ music video. The costume featured the iconic black jumpsuit decorated with silver sequin stripes, completed with a pair of silver moon boots.
But Nelly did not stop at the outfit. The rapper grabbed the microphone and enthusiastically sang along to ‘Rock With You,’ bringing even more Michael Jackson energy to the celebration.
His wife, Ashanti, who dressed as Diana Ross for the occasion, shared footage from the party on her Instagram Stories on Sunday, November 1, giving fans a glimpse of the festivities.
The couple was seen dancing together to Michael Jackson’s disco classic, with Nelly fully embracing his King of Pop transformation. Other clips showed the rapper making his entrance at the party, sporting his signature smile and looking every bit the superstar.
The footage quickly had fans laughing and celebrating Nelly’s unexpected but entertaining Michael Jackson tribute, with many enjoying the rapper’s commitment to recreating one of the most recognizable looks from Michael Jackson’s early solo career.
With ‘Rock With You’ providing the soundtrack to the evening, Nelly’s birthday celebration turned into a memorable Michael Jackson moment, proving once again that the King of Pop’s iconic style and music continue to inspire artists across generations.
Happy Birthday, Nelly!
PS: it is pure coincidence that we are posting this article the day “Rock With You” Single was released in 1979!
