Michael Jackson could be bringing his iconic “Thriller” zombies to Universal Orlando Resort in 2027, according to rumours circulating online about next year’s Halloween Horror Nights. However, fans should be aware that nothing has been officially confirmed at this stage.
Three entertainment websites, Disney Fanatic, Inside the Magic and Disney Dining, published reports on October 10 discussing the possibility of a Michael Jackson-themed haunted house at Halloween Horror Nights 36, which is expected to take place at Universal Studios Florida in Orlando, Florida, in 2027.
The speculation reportedly began with a post shared by the X account Maniacs Nation on October 9. According to the post, an insider known as Legacy has reportedly heard that three properties could be considered for next year’s event: Michael Jackson’s “Thriller”, the 1984 film “Gremlins” and the “Resident Evil” video game franchise. The post also suggests that up to seven different properties could be involved, with some potentially appearing as scare zones rather than haunted houses.
At present, these claims remain unverified, and there is no official announcement from Universal Orlando Resort confirming any of the three properties.
The possibility of a “Thriller” attraction is certainly an exciting prospect for Michael Jackson fans. Released in 1983, the legendary short film directed by John Landis remains one of the most recognisable productions in music history. Its iconic graveyard scene, transforming zombies, elaborate makeup and unforgettable choreography would provide plenty of inspiration for an immersive Halloween experience.
Halloween Horror Nights is known for transforming famous films, television series and other entertainment properties into elaborate haunted houses and scare experiences. Universal has also demonstrated that musical artists can inspire attractions, with an Ozzy Osbourne-themed haunted house featured in the 2026 event.
However, bringing “Thriller” to the event would require the appropriate permissions for the relevant music, imagery and other elements, depending on how the attraction was developed. There is currently no verified information confirming that an agreement has been reached with the Michael Jackson Estate or any other relevant rights holders.
If the rumour eventually becomes reality, it could offer fans a unique opportunity to step into the world of one of Michael Jackson’s most celebrated creations. Whether visitors would encounter the famous zombies, explore the graveyard or experience other scenes inspired by the short film remains purely speculative.
For now, Michael Jackson fans will have to wait for further information. Universal Orlando Resort has not announced its Halloween Horror Nights 2027 lineup, and “Thriller” should not yet be considered a confirmed attraction.
MJVibe will keep an eye on developments and update fans if official information becomes available.
