After months of weekly updates, milestones, corrections, missing figures and plenty of discussion among fans, the theatrical journey of Michael has officially come to an end.
According to the latest figures from Box Office Mojo, Michael has finished its worldwide theatrical run with an incredible $1,028,706,645 at the global box office.
That is $372,303,388 from the domestic market and $656,403,257 internationally, meaning an impressive 63.8% of the movie’s worldwide gross came from outside the domestic market.
And whatever anyone thinks about the movie itself, there is no denying that those are extraordinary numbers for a Michael Jackson biopic.
A Billion-Dollar Michael Jackson Movie
Michael crossed the historic $1 billion worldwide milestone earlier this year, becoming one of the biggest movies of 2026.
With the final figure now recorded, Michael sits behind Spider-Man: Brand New Day, The Odyssey and Toy Story 5 among the biggest worldwide releases of 2026, with the movie finishing ahead of Super Mario Galaxy on the figures currently reported.
Box Office Mojo lists the movie’s domestic opening at $97,206,874, before its eventual $372.3 million domestic finish.
But perhaps the most impressive part of the final result is just how much of the audience came from around the world.
The United Kingdom finished as the movie’s biggest international market with $71,767,945, followed by France with $57,776,397 and Japan with $53,964,861.
Germany delivered $38,996,962, while Brazil reached $34,092,747, Russia/CIS $33,426,748, Australia $33,312,639, Mexico $32,005,042, Italy $30,210,566 and Spain $28,228,199.
There were also substantial contributions from South Korea, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, China and many other markets.
Japan is particularly notable, having opened much later than most territories, on June 12, yet ultimately contributing almost $54 million to the worldwide total. The official Box Office Mojo figures list the Japanese gross at $53,964,861.
But Are These Really The Final Numbers?
This is where things get a little complicated.
Many fans online have questioned the accuracy of the reported worldwide total because international box-office reporting did not always appear to update consistently.
There was particular frustration surrounding Japan, where Michael continued playing for an extended period while some of the major box-office databases appeared to go for long periods without updating the film’s cumulative total. Fan discussions at the time also highlighted differences between Box Office Mojo and other tracking services.
There were also additional screenings and limited theatrical returns in various territories. Some fans therefore believe that the eventual worldwide figure could have been higher if every later screening and re-release had been reflected immediately, or at all, in the major tracking databases.
It is important to stress that these are fan concerns and observations about the tracking, rather than a confirmed alternative worldwide total.
And we have seen the reporting change before. During the theatrical run, figures were repeatedly revised as territories reported their numbers, while some markets were temporarily missing or delayed. MJVibe itself changed its reporting approach because the official worldwide figures were taking longer to be finalised and were being adjusted days after publication.
So, could there be additional money that was not captured in the final headline figure?
It is something fans will undoubtedly continue to debate.
But for the purposes of the official box-office record, $1,028,706,645 is the number currently recorded.
And that is the number we will celebrate.

Because ultimately, the biggest story here isn’t whether the final figure should have been $1.028 billion, $1.05 billion or something else.
The biggest story is that millions of people around the world went to cinemas to watch Michael Jackson.
People who had grown up with Michael’s music returned to it.
People who knew the hits discovered more of his work.
Younger audiences experienced Michael Jackson’s story on the big screen for the first time.
And many people who had never considered themselves Michael Jackson fans walked out of cinemas wanting to hear more.
That is something a box-office spreadsheet cannot measure.
The movie created an entirely new wave of interest around Michael Jackson, his music, his performances and his legacy.
And we have seen the effect continuing well beyond the cinema.
