Paris Jackson Continues Legal Challenge Against the Estate Over Sealed Documents and Executor Fees

The ongoing legal dispute between Paris Jackson and the executors of the Michael Jackson Estate has entered another chapter, with the latest disagreement focusing on whether certain court documents connected to estate fees should remain sealed.

According to newly filed court documents, Paris Jackson is objecting to a request from estate co-executor John Branca to keep specific records private. Branca argues that making the documents public could potentially harm future business negotiations and provide information that could be used by competitors or adversaries of the estate.

Paris, however, disagrees with that argument and is asking the court to reject the request to seal the documents.

At the centre of the disagreement is a wider debate over transparency and the management of Michael Jackson’s estate, which remains one of the most commercially successful entertainment estates in the world more than 17 years after the singer’s passing.

In her filings, Paris claims that the estate remains open due to the way it has been managed and says she and her brothers have not been given sufficient insight into certain financial matters.

The estate has pushed back against those claims, arguing that Paris’ filings contain what they describe as “inflammatory rhetoric” and statements that are unrelated to the specific legal issue currently before the court.

The executors have maintained that the estate has generated significant value for Michael Jackson’s heirs and have previously stated that Paris, Prince Jackson and Bigi Jackson have received millions in benefits since their father’s death.

A major part of Paris’ objections involves payments made to those working on behalf of the estate.

In her recent filing, Paris referenced the compensation received by John Branca and the late John McClain, claiming that the two executors were paid more than $120 million for their work managing the estate.

The estate has previously defended those payments, stating that the executors’ work has transformed Michael Jackson’s estate into one of the most valuable and successful estates in the entertainment industry.

It is important to note that estate administration, including legal, financial and business management, involves numerous professionals and expenses over many years. The executors have consistently argued that their decisions have protected and increased the value of Michael Jackson’s legacy.

The latest dispute follows a recent legal victory for Paris regarding bonus payments to third-party law firms working with the estate.

A judge ruled that future bonus payments to outside law firms would require either approval from the beneficiaries or authorisation from the court. The ruling also ordered the return of $625,000 in previously paid bonuses to the estate.

Paris has pointed to this decision as support for her concerns regarding oversight of estate spending.

The estate, however, has rejected accusations that it has acted improperly. Attorney Jonathan Steinsapir, who represents the estate, has previously denied allegations made by Paris’ legal team and accused them of presenting misleading claims.

The latest filing once again highlights the complicated relationship between Michael Jackson’s children and the people responsible for managing their father’s legacy.

Since Michael Jackson’s passing in 2009, the estate has become a global entertainment powerhouse, overseeing music releases, film projects, merchandise, licensing agreements and major productions celebrating the artist’s work. Under the leadership of the executors, the estate has generated billions of dollars and introduced Michael Jackson’s music to new generations around the world.

At the same time, disputes over control, finances and transparency have continued to create tensions between the executors and members of Michael Jackson’s family.

The court has not yet ruled on John Branca’s request to keep the documents sealed. For now, the latest battle remains focused on whether certain financial information should be made public and how much transparency should exist around the management of Michael Jackson’s estate.

MJVibe will continue to follow developments as this legal matter progresses.
