Michael Jackson fans in Japan are about to get a rare opportunity to experience one of the King of Pop’s most beloved films on the big screen once again.
On June 17, 2026, Moonwalker will be screened at Cube Garden in Sapporo as part of a special “Live Sound Screening” event, allowing fans to enjoy the film in a unique concert-like atmosphere.
Unlike a traditional cinema screening, attendees will be encouraged to fully participate throughout the movie. Fans will be allowed to stand, cheer, sing along, applaud, and even attend in costume. Glow sticks, light-up items, tambourines, bells, small drums, and fans will also be permitted, creating an interactive celebration of Michael Jackson’s music and legacy.
Even emotional reactions are welcome, with organizers humorously noting that “sobbing is OK” too.
The event will take place at the live music venue Cube Garden in Sapporo, with three screenings scheduled throughout the day:
- 2:25 PM
- 5:00 PM
- 7:35 PM
Each screening will last approximately 93 minutes, and all admissions will be on a reserved-entry basis.
Originally released in 1988, Moonwalker remains one of Michael Jackson’s most iconic film projects, blending music videos, live performances, fantasy storytelling, and groundbreaking visual effects. The film features memorable sequences including “Smooth Criminal,” which introduced one of Jackson’s most celebrated dance performances.
While Michael Jackson’s upcoming biopic Michael continues to attract attention across Japan, it is encouraging to see classic Jackson projects also receiving theatrical screenings. Events such as this give both longtime fans and newer generations the chance to experience Moonwalker in a communal setting that feels much closer to a concert than a movie screening.
General ticket sales begin on June 6 at 10:00 AM local time, and given the enthusiastic fan culture surrounding Michael Jackson in Japan, demand could be strong.
For those lucky enough to attend, this promises to be a night of music, memories, and celebration worthy of the King of Pop.
