A caretaker at a music school in China has become an internet sensation after his impressive imitation of Michael Jackson’s dance moves went viral on Chinese social media.

Wang Shijin, a 54-year-old cleaner working in the Shenyang Conservatory of Music in Liaoning Province, recalls watching a group of old ladies ‘dancing vigorously’ to a Michael Jackson song on TV in 2010.

One of his children said that the group had performed on the Spring Festival Gala to which Wang declared that he could do a lot better, reported Chinese media Sina.

After seeing the King of Pop perform his signature moonwalk move for the first time, the silver-haired caretaker admits to becoming obsessed and committed to fulfilling the declaration made to his child.
The man in the mirror

With no dance studio available for practice, Wang turned the men’s bathroom he had been cleaning for most of his life into his stage, becoming the literal ‘man in the mirror’.

Despite relying on hearing aids and poor vision, Wang spent the first eight months slowly piecing together all the steps in order to complete his first Michael Jackson dance routine.

“Later, in order to facilitate learning dance movements, I bought a laptop and this has been the biggest expense in my life,” reveals Wang, dressed in his grey work clothes.

Supported by family, as well as teachers and students in the school, Wang Shijin has become an internet celebrity thanks to the videos people are regularly making of his bathroom performances.

“I have a big dream… I have a little grandson, he is just two-years-old, and when he grows up I will teach him to imitate Michael Jackson’s dancing. I hope he can also feel the joy of dance,” shares Wang.
