A new Michael Jackson–related title is set to arrive this spring, offering fans a deeply personal and reflective perspective on a rarely explored chapter of the King of Pop’s early life.
Finding Truth with Michael: A Memoir of Friendship, Faith, and First Love is a forthcoming memoir by Darls Centola, scheduled for release on April 7, 2026. Spanning 259 pages, the book promises an intimate look at a unique friendship formed during Michael Jackson’s teenage years—one rooted not in fame, but in faith, curiosity, and emotional connection.
Set in 1970s Los Angeles, the memoir follows fourteen-year-old Darls as she navigates two contrasting worlds: the strict expectations of her upbringing as a Jehovah’s Witness and the complex social environment of an elite private school populated by children of Hollywood stars. Her life takes an unexpected turn when a quiet fifteen-year-old Michael Jackson approaches her with a simple request—to study the Bible together.
According to the book’s description, what begins as a shared spiritual pursuit gradually evolves into a meaningful bond. Away from the spotlight and expectations surrounding him, Michael is portrayed as a thoughtful and introspective teenager, seeking understanding and connection. Their meetings—often set in a secluded, eucalyptus-scented hideaway—become a space where both can openly share their fears, dreams, and questions about faith, identity, and the future.
The narrative draws heavily from Darls’s own teenage diaries, giving the story an authentic and unfiltered tone. Themes of first love, personal awakening, and the tension between belief systems and individual truth are central to the memoir.
The dynamic described in the book echoes sentiments shared by La Toya Jackson in her autobiography, where she recalled how rare it was for Michael to have friends outside the family. Darls, notably, is described as someone who saw Michael not as a global star in the making, but simply as another teenager, something he deeply valued.
Finding Truth with Michael adds to the growing body of literature that seeks to humanize Michael Jackson by focusing on his formative years. Rather than revisiting his global fame, this memoir centers on a quieter, more vulnerable side of his life, one shaped by faith, friendship, and self-discovery.
The book will be available beginning April 7, 2026. PRE-ORDER HERE
