Fans of Michael Jackson and Minnie Riperton have reason to celebrate. Minnie Riperton’s 1980 posthumous album Love Lives Forever, originally released on Capitol Records, is set for a CD reissue on October 10 via Music On CD.
This album holds a special place in music history, not only as a tribute to Minnie’s incredible artistry following her passing in 1979, but also as a rare collaboration between Riperton and the King of Pop himself. Minnie had recorded her vocals prior to her death, and the album was lovingly completed by her husband and musical partner Richard Rudolph, who brought in an extraordinary lineup of musicians and friends to finish what she had started.
One of the standout tracks is the duet “I’m In Love Again”, co-written by Minnie Riperton and Richard Rudolph. Michael Jackson recorded his vocals after Minnie’s passing, creating a poignant and otherworldly collaboration. His gentle harmonies weave through Minnie’s soaring soprano, making the song a moving highlight of the album. These familiar names from Jackson’s world help bridge Minnie’s ethereal voice with the sound of the era. The legendary Stevie Wonder also lends his harmonica to the record, adding yet another dimension of soul.
Beyond Michael Jackson’s contribution, the album features appearances from George Benson, Roberta Flack, and Patrice Rushen, making it a gathering of some of the finest talent in music. Each artist involved left a handwritten note on the original album’s back cover. Michael Jackson’s words remain especially heartfelt:
