A rare and meaningful piece of Michael Jackson history has found a new home in Budapest. Madame Tussauds Budapest has unveiled a unique relic for fans: the original handprint of the King of Pop, created during a 1989 session in Los Angeles as part of the preparation for his wax figure.
Timed to coincide with the anniversary of Michael’s passing on June 25, the handprint will be permanently displayed alongside his figure in the attraction’s music hall. This marks an emotional tribute to the legacy of the artist who continues to inspire generations around the world.
Michael Jackson was deeply involved in the creation of his Madame Tussauds wax figures, personally attending detailed sittings with the museum’s artists. During these sessions, two in total, specialists meticulously recorded his height, body proportions, eye placement, and hair color to ensure every detail was faithfully recreated. The handprint now exhibited in Budapest was taken during one of these exclusive meetings in Los Angeles.
Globally, only Queen Elizabeth II has had more wax figures made in her likeness than Michael. His continued popularity with visitors has made him a permanent fixture in Madame Tussauds locations worldwide, and Budapest is no exception. In fact, Michael has consistently topped the museum’s visitor polls for the most requested celebrity figure since the attraction opened.
Initially, the Budapest location borrowed a wax figure of Michael from the Vienna branch due to overwhelming demand. Its success quickly led to the arrival of a permanent figure, which now stands among other music icons including Beyoncé, Freddie Mercury, Jennifer Lopez, and Rihanna.
