Michael Jackson Makes History (Again!) as “Thriller” Returns to the Top 10
The King of Pop just can’t stop making history! Following Halloween, Michael Jackson’s legendary “Thriller” has jumped from No. 32 to No. 10 on the Billboard Hot 100, proving, once again, that MJ’s magic is eternal.
With this new milestone, Michael becomes the first artist ever to achieve Top 10 hits in six consecutive decades, the ‘70s, ‘80s, ‘90s, 2000s, ‘10s, and now the ‘20s. An absolutely unmatched achievement!
Originally released in the U.S. in 1984, “Thriller” reached No. 4 during its initial chart run. Decades later, the song continues to rise every Halloween season as a new generation rediscovers the groundbreaking track and its iconic short film that redefined music videos forever.
This was also helped by the Fan Campaign #ThrillerChallenge which rallied fans around the world to stream or buy the song through the Halloween season.
Michael’s journey with the Billboard Hot 100 began in 1971 with “Got to Be There”, the first of what would become 30 Top 10 singles and 13 No. 1 hits throughout his extraordinary solo career. From “Billie Jean” and “Beat It” to “Bad” and “Man in the Mirror,” every era of MJ brought innovation, inspiration, and global impact.
This new chart success also means Michael surpasses Andy Williams, who previously held the record for Top 10 hits across five decades. The King of Pop truly stands alone at the top!
The King still reigns supreme.
