The Met Gala is always the most anticipated night in the fashion calendar, not only for fashionistas but, to some extent, for Michael Jackson fans as well. Why, you may ask? Because there is always someone who draws inspiration from Michael Jackson.
This year, the theme of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s annual Costume Institute Benefit is “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” drawn from the Costume Institute’s spring 2025 exhibition, which explores the role of sartorial style in shaping Black identities.
On May 5, hundreds of stars walked the red carpet on Fifth Avenue in New York to showcase their outfits for the night. Among them were Rihanna, Madonna, Spike Lee, Lewis Hamilton, Bad Bunny, and many more.
But one person who caught our attention was 36-year-old Evan Ross, son of Diana Ross.
But first, let’s talk about Diana Ross. She wore a white gown designed by Nigerian designer Ugo Mozie, showing how important her family is to her with an 18-foot feathered train embroidered with the names of all five of her children (Rhonda, Tracee, Chudney, Ross, and Evan) and eight of her grandchildren (Raif, Callaway, Everlee, Leif, Indigo, Jagger, Bronx, and Ziggy).
Evan Ross wore a black suit adorned with black embroidered crystals, a silk white armband, and an open silk shirt. The black suit reminded us of Michael Jackson’s Dangerous performance look, while the white shirt echoed the timeless ripped tee Michael wore in Black or White and Come Together.
Now, this is just speculation, but while the soul diva wore her family on her dress, she was joined by her son, who seemed to be channeling Michael, perhaps suggesting that Michael is considered part of their extended family.
And as the Michael biopic has been delayed again with no confirmed release date, Colman Domingo, who plays Joe Jackson in the upcoming film, had no movie promotion duties to attend to so he appeared at the gala in a blue cape, like a king, dramatically revealing his outfit beneath.
Thank you Diana and Evan Ross for representing Michael at the MET Gala this year! Hopefully we will see even more inspirations once the biopic will be released!
The biopic was delayed again???? The October date was withdrawn???
