Fans of Michael Jackson can now get their first look at a new mural created by Los Angeles artist Robert Vargas, celebrating the King of Pop at a location with a special connection to one of his most iconic short films. The unveiling took place on Friday at the Japanese restaurant who organised a MJ event in this occasion.
The mural was commissioned for Suehiro DTLA, the restaurant located at 400 South Main Street in downtown Los Angeles, whose basement once housed the billiard hall featured in Michael Jackson’s legendary “Beat It” short film.
The first images of the artwork reveal Michael Jackson performing during his legendary BAD World Tour, capturing the King of Pop in one of his most recognisable concert eras.
While the mural is a beautiful tribute to Michael, we cannot help wondering whether a scene inspired by “Beat It” might have been a more fitting choice for a location so closely associated with the 1983 short film!
Nevertheless, it is wonderful to see a new artwork dedicated to Michael Jackson in a place where part of his musical history was made. Robert Vargas is known for his distinctive portrait work and large-scale murals, and this latest creation gives fans another reason to visit downtown Los Angeles.
For fans planning a Michael Jackson pilgrimage, the address is:
Suehiro DTLA
400 South Main Street
Los Angeles, CA 90013
USA
The restaurant’s location connects today’s visitors with the history of “Beat It”, one of Michael Jackson’s most celebrated short films, directed by Bob Giraldi and released in 1983.
If you are visiting Los Angeles, this could be another stop to add to your Michael Jackson filming-location tour. Remember to check with Suehiro DTLA before travelling to confirm that the mural is accessible to visitors.
We look forward to seeing more pictures of Robert Vargas’ tribute and hope fans will share their photographs when they visit!
