Before the “spectacular” collection of Michael Jackson memorabilia heading to auction with Julien’s Auctions in Abu Dhabi this December, fans have a rare opportunity to see some of the incredible items in person.

But before the hammer falls, a selection of these iconic pieces has travelled to Seattle for a special limited-time exhibition.
The Museum of Pop Culture (MOPOP) has unveiled “Michael Jackson: The Fashion Legacy,” a three-week exhibition celebrating the King of Pop’s unforgettable style, spectacle and showmanship.
Running from August 22 to September 7, the exhibition features around a dozen artifacts, including stage-worn costumes, accessories and pieces connected to defining moments throughout Michael Jackson’s extraordinary career.
Among the highlights are the shoes Michael wore when he introduced the world to the moonwalk during the legendary Motown 25 performance, as well as the instantly recognisable white-and-blue suit from the Smooth Criminal short film. Visitors can also see an embellished Thriller jacket worn on stage during the Bad tour, along with a glove featured in a Vibe magazine photoshoot.
Michael Jackson understood that fashion was an essential part of performance. His clothes were never simply costumes; they became part of the music, the choreography and the character he created on stage and screen. From a single glove to a fedora, from sparkling jackets to sharp suits, his silhouette became instantly recognisable around the world.
MOPOP describes the exhibition as a celebration of the artist who made “every move, every beat, and every outfit his own.” For fans, it is also a fascinating opportunity to get close to pieces of pop culture history before many of them move on to their next chapter at auction.
