A new limited-edition supplement called Thriller is set to launch on Saturday, August 29, perfectly timed to celebrate Michael Jackson’s birthday and there appears to be much more to this Michael Jackson-inspired release than first thought.
Apollon Nutrition has created Thriller as a special edition of its Hydration+Recovery product, adding creatine, extra taurine, electrolytes and caffeine to the existing formula for a product focused on performance, endurance and recovery.
At first glance, the product may look like another unofficial Michael Jackson-inspired release. The name Thriller, the famous single glove and the fedora imagery are unmistakable references to the King of Pop, while the supplement itself has no direct connection to Michael Jackson or his music.
However, the involvement of Prince Jackson gives this release a very different dimension.
Prince has endorsed the collaboration, and Apollon Nutrition is donating proceeds from the special edition product to his Heal Los Angeles Foundation, which supports programmes and initiatives for young people and families in Los Angeles. The foundation itself was co-founded by Prince and continues Michael Jackson’s humanitarian spirit through its work with local communities.
The decision to launch the product on Michael’s birthday is also no coincidence. It is a clever and obvious tribute from what appears to be a genuine Michael Jackson fan or fans behind the project, combining recognisable MJ-inspired designs with a charitable contribution connected directly to Michael’s family.
And while we cannot say that this is an official Michael Jackson Estate product without a direct confirmation, Prince Jackson’s endorsement and the involvement of Heal Los Angeles certainly suggest that the project is known and supported within the Jackson family circle.
Interestingly, Thriller is also a particularly fitting theme for Heal Los Angeles, which regularly celebrates Michael’s legacy through events such as This Is Thriller and Thriller Night, both benefiting the foundation.
So, although you may not be buying an official piece of Michael Jackson merchandise, this is clearly more than simply a company borrowing Michael’s image to sell a product. With Prince Jackson involved and proceeds going towards Heal Los Angeles, this limited-edition birthday release has a genuine connection to Michael’s legacy and a charitable purpose behind it.
