The Michael Jackson Estate is not amused. Neither the fans!
After a viral studio clip showed Sexyy Red flipping Michael Jackson’s classic Beat It into an explicit rework titled “Just Eat It,” the Estate quickly shut the door on any official release.
“We were totally unaware of this,” a spokesperson told Billboard. “The use of the music is unauthorized.”
Translation? Don’t expect this one to hit streaming platforms anytime soon.
How It Started
The controversy ignited when Lil Yachty shared behind-the-scenes footage of Sexyy in the studio, vibing to her raunchy take on Michael Jackson’s 1982 anthem. Yachty cheekily captioned it as a “sneak peek” from the upcoming Michael biopic soundtrack, set to arrive in April, a joke that sent social media into overdrive.
In the clip, Sexyy delivers unapologetically explicit bars over the unmistakable “Beat It” instrumental, flipping the anti-violence classic into a no-holds-barred bedroom anthem.
The internet did what it does best: divide.
Some fans laughed it off as trolling. Others weren’t having it.
Backlash From the MJ Camp (and Beyond)
Hip-hop pioneer Monie Love didn’t mince words, calling the flip “beyond disrespectful” and blasting whoever might have cleared the sample, though, as it turns out, no clearance was granted.
Singer Emanny, affiliated with The Joe Budden Podcast, also weighed in, joking that he was on the phone with the Estate’s lawyer to make sure the track never sees an official release. “It’s cease and desist SZN,” he posted, referencing the April 24 rollout of the biopic.
Under Yachty’s comments, fans echoed the sentiment: “Please never let this clear the sample!”
With the Estate publicly confirming the usage is unauthorized, the message is clear, MJ’s catalog remains tightly protected.
Irony: Sexyy’s Longtime MJ Love
What makes the uproar more layered is that Sexyy has openly celebrated the King of Pop in the past.
Back in November, she brought out MJ impersonator Rico Hampton during a hometown St. Louis show to perform Billie Jean for the crowd, a full-circle fan moment that had the audience moonwalking.
That history makes this moment feel less like a diss and more like shock-value internet chaos colliding with one of the most protected catalogs in music history.
Meanwhile, Business Moves Continue
Controversy aside, Sexyy isn’t slowing down. She recently teamed up with Key Glock for “Hang Wit a Bad B—h,” produced by Tay Keith — keeping her momentum strong in 2026.
But when it comes to flipping MJ classics?
The Estate has drawn a hard line.
As the Michael film gears up for release and Michael Jackson’s legacy takes center stage once again, one thing is certain: playing with “Beat It” without permission is a risky move and this round goes to the Estate. Beat It, Sexyy Red!
