Michael Jackson’s sock sells for over €6,200 in France

As we told you last month about a stage sock once worn by Michael Jackson, reportedly left behind after his HIStory World Tour stop in Nice on June 27, 1997 to be put in auction in France, well it has been sold.

Michael Jackson’s iconic stage-worn sock, a true relic from the HIStory World Tour era, has just moonwalked its way into the hands of a new owner, fetching an impressive €6,200 at auction in Nîmes, France.

The sparkling white sock, covered in rhinestones, was discovered by a technician backstage near Michael Jackson’s dressing room after his July 1997 concert in the southern French city. While it may have been overlooked at the time, it’s now a prized piece of pop culture history.

As fans will know, Michael Jackson was known for his signature rhinestone socks, most famously during performances of Billie Jean. And yes, this sock is believed to have been worn during that very song. Though time has left its mark, stains and some yellowing rhinestones—the magic is still very much alive.

Auctioneer Aurore Illy, speaking to AFP, described it as “an exceptional object – even a cult one for Michael Jackson fans.” Originally estimated to sell between €3,000 and €4,000, the sock nearly doubled expectations, proving once again that Michael’s legacy still captivates fans and collectors worldwide.

Quite the price tag for one dirty sock!
