Big news from the world of Michael! Lionsgate and producer Graham King are going full steam ahead with a significant new round of filming for the upcoming Michael Jackson biopic, Michael. According to The Hollywood Reporter, a 22-day shoot is scheduled for June, with the team gearing up to expand the scope of the project.
Rather than traditional “reshoots,” this phase is more about extending the first half of the story into a full-length feature. Sources close to the production have shared that the film — which has already captured over three and a half hours of footage under director Antoine Fuqua — is being shaped into something even more ambitious.
There’s also talk that Michael may now be released in two parts, a move that would allow the creative team, including the Michael Jackson Estate, to do justice to the King of Pop’s legendary life and career. The first film is expected to conclude with Michael’s departure from the Jackson 5, shortly after the release of his groundbreaking solo album Off the Wall.
During Lionsgate’s latest earnings call, CEO Jon Feltheimer confirmed that Michael is now targeting a 2026 release date, moving from its previously rescheduled slot in October 2025. More details, including a definitive release date, are expected in the coming weeks.
